Wooooo Hoooooo!

I feel like today is my birthday! We took back the House! Finally, we will be able to hold the President accountable for his lies. Give us two more years and we're taking back the White House.

Happy, happy Brooke!

AND WHEN ALL OF THE VOTES ARE RECOUNTED THE DEMOCRATS MIGHT HAVE THE SENATE ALSO!!!!!
WHAT IS GOOD IS NOT THAT THE REPUBLICANS HAVE LOST A LOT OF POWER - IT IS THE WAY THEY LOST - SANTORUM GONE, WELDON GONE ETC.
THE "EVANGELICALS" HAVE BEEN DRIVEN FROM POWER.

HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN

Oh, yes. That's right. Now we can listen to the Democrats' lies AGAIN. It's their turn now.

"You pays your money and you makes your choice." And it's only a matter of time before the complaints start rolling in about this lot. I'll bet my house that they won't do ANYTHING about Iraq, not anything different; they'll end up as bogged down as the Republican idiots. Iraq has been GREAT for the Dems. Without that, they wouldn't have been elected. I am sure the truth is that they are very HAPPY that the Iraq war was an issue they could campaign on -- they had nothing else.

The election doesn't mean anything. It's an enormous manipulation of the American citizenry and it means NOTHING. The only way we Americans will ever have a true democracy is when we have the choice of NONE OF THE ABOVE on our ballots. Then, when more people have voted for that option than any other, new candidates will have to be found -- fresh candidates that might be worthy of electing, maybe even the odd honorable person here or there with some actual integrity -- now wouldn't THAT be something!

There is no "Us" and "Them" in politics, as we were so bluntly informed back in 2000.

Nobody who is supposedly enjoying the hospitality of Serbia should be gloating about the Democrats winning. That's not to say that the Republicans are anything to crow about, they haven't fixed what the previous Democratic administration committed, so they're just as bad - in more ways than Iraq.

Anybody who lives in a country that was bombed to hell by her own country and yahoos about the Democrats in the U.S. could also be called a dumbass, if not worse. Insensitive would perhaps be the least of it.

If you're getting away with this in Belgrade it's only more proof of how very tolerant Serbs are, and exactly the opposite of what your Democrats painted them to be.

Here in the UK everyone is over the moon about the election results, even my friends who know nothing about what is happening in the world know the exact results! Even our Conservative Party wont have anything to do with the republicans anymore.

I hope that the US can now start to rebuild its image and relations with the rest of the world over the coming few months.

And lets hope that we will see the same here next year in the scottish and Welsh Parliaments where its expected Labour will loose control. Or even better Tony Blair charged for selling Peerages!

YEAH!!!!!

Dave

P.S.
Am confused as to why Blackbird is taking such exception to the Democrats, does that mean you dont like all the ruling parties of all the EU countries of that time period too? If I remember correctly the entire political spectrum in the UK was in favour of intervening in Serbia, and I am sure it was the same in the US and the rest of Europe.

To be frank, US foreign policies are almost a constant regardless of which party is in power. And now when democrats are centrists like in this election and republican also playing the blue collar card - i, as an european, have to ask - what's the difference between republicans and democrats in 21st century?

As I said before there is always one party that is preferable to another but lets not be silly about this.

Its only a matter of time before we will remember why Democrats lost the confidence of many Americans. Then as if by magic, after a few years the other side will be all excited about a new Republican leader, of course forgetting all about Iraq, Rumsfeld and company...

In other words during this 'excitement' lets bear in mind that we are talking about politicians here, not mother teresa.

bg anon,

You are a voice of reason.

Dave,

I don't forgive the EU governments of the time, either, but let's face it -- most of the NATO members at the time were coerced and blackmailed by the Clinton Adminstration into complying. I object to their lack of backbone in not standing up to the Clinton Administration and to the German government, but it was, in fact, a U.S. led attack (although goaded on by Germany) and it was the U.S. DEMOCRATS who committed that crime and most of America's Democrats blindly supported it.

It is appalling and unforgivable, in my opinion, to rub the noses of Serbs, especially when you live in Serbia, into these current election results like they are something wonderful. I suppose it would be even more wonderful for Hillary (who egged her louse of a husband on to bomb Serbia) to get elected president, eh?

As for Iraq, the Democrats are far from innocent in that issue and nobody ever mentioned during Clinton's time that Iraq was being bombed then, too, with almost daily raids of the place. Time will show that, as Milos said, people will soon be rooting for the other side -- and they will be wasting their time, too. Our elections in the U.S. are just a means for rich people in power to continue to manipulate the population to further their own agendas. Where are the true choices? Where's the democracy? It's a sham.

blackbird - for your information, political parties do not bomb countries. And the democratic party is much larger than Clinton, it is Barak Obama, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, all of the Kennedy's, Franklin Roosevelt, and many others. It is clear that you don't understand the point of political parties in America - they stand for platforms, and have organized ideas about how the country should be run - like believing that the minimum wage should be raised, that we shouldn't be constantly cutting taxes for the rich while still trying to pay for a war, and that the goverment should stay out of people's bedrooms. Perhaps you should stop being such a whiner and actually find a candidate that you can believe in and work for them....or perhaps, if you are so in love with Serb nationalism, you should just renounce the American citizenship that you are so clearly taking for granted and join your nationalist comrades in trying to recapture Milosevic's Yugoslavia since that was just such a lovely place.

Do people really think that American politicians spend that much time thinking about Serbia or Serbs? It's a big world out there...

Until candidates from both parties are being financed by the some money (i.e. lobbying in form of financial donations to campaign funds) there will be no change. This legal form of corruption (and explain it to me how it is not corruption, since no one finances a political candidate without wanting to further their agenda) makes the US political system a democracy only in theory.

Look into where the financial contributions are coming from. Both parties get them from same companies. You think a company will bet on one candidate alone. They bet on both, so whichever wins they have their candidate to reap favors from.

If democrats are truly on the side of the little guy then let's see when they start probing why gas prices in the US have been going down for the last 3 months, and somehow since Tuesday they have been mysteriously going up every day. Let's see when will the democrats investigate highest profits in corporate history by oil companies while the gas prices have skyrocketed during Bush's two terms. Let's see when will they start providing health care for the 45 million of uninsured Americans. On and on.

So my friends, while I applaud your enthusiasm toward change, I’m afraid not much will come of it. Your spirit is in the right place. However I'm afraid without us having millions of dollars to pump into our own candidates we have no say in this democracy.

...on that note why doesn't someone look into reforming campaign laws, and take big bucks out of political financing, and put an end to this legal corruption. And perhaps enable more political parties in the US, outside of these two vanilla flavors we currently have. The fact that elections are getting so close each time is that neither party is offering any alternative. The two parties have figured that more to the center they are the greater their appeal is. It's like listening to music at an American wedding, it's always the same three songs (YMCA, Brick House and Electric Boogie) because those songs bring most people out on the dance floor.

By the way, love your blog. I’m posting as anonymous since I’m too lazy to create a user name.

"Anonymous," "brave" soul that you are, you are so full of it, and so predictable. You haven't been able to contradict a single thing I have said; you've only shown your complete ignorance and prejudices.

It was a DEMOCRATIC ADMINISTRATION that bombed in more than one area of the former Yugoslavia. It's a cheap shot from you to try to paint me as some sort of nationalist. That's another thing you Democrats have demonized Serbs about -- the very idea of Serbian nationalism is a crock. If it's you, it must be patriotism, right? But if it's the Serbs it's nationalism? What else do you spin in your spare time? If you knew anything, you'd know that Serbia was the least nationalistic of all the former Yugoslav reublics, just as it is the only one that remained multi-cultural.

It's so pathetically typical of you faux-democrats to impose a love it or leave it dictat on anyone who points out a few facts to you.

Stop whining at people who bring the truth out about what was done to Yugoslavia -- you clearly have no clue about those facts and you are making your ignorance all too evident. We Americans owe the Serbs big time and those of you who don't even care to find out how and why are very small people indeed.

The Democrats and the Republicans all work for the same interests: promoting the expansion of markets to exploit and dominate.

Both have supported terrorists groups in Kosovo and have additionally, supported the black-market in those regions as well as a way to meet their objectives. Current Republican policy is a continuation of Democratic policy there.
I believe that the nations in Western and Central Europe will have a wait-and-see attitude about the electoral events in the United States. I think that is only natural as the current regime is in favour of Kosovo's independence and the democratic regime bombed the legitimate inhabitants of the area, the Serbs, for responding to Albanian atrocities.

What we can do as United States citizens is write Congress and tell them that we support Serbia's territorial integrity and the right of self-determination as it fits into current international law mandates and protocols. Also write editorials to your newspapers, even in small rural areas. The people of the United States are being kept ignorant by our government and we as informed citizens need to step up to our civil duty to inform them of the facts in a friendly non-confrontational way. When the newspapers fail us, word of mouth is the way to go.

Yes, the Republicans have continued the dirty work of the Democrats in the Balkans. That's my point -- they're all the same. Exactly the same. It won't be long before that becomes evident once again and people start squawking about what the Dems are doing.

Mind you, there is very good reason to believe that George W. Bush now...finally...has EXACTLY the Congress that he's always wanted. I don't think HE's at all disappointed in the election results. After all, what did he say just yesterday -- that Bill Clinton is his "fourth brother"! Oh, oh, here goes my gag reflex again...
